Burlington Athletic Stadium History. Burlington Athletic Stadium, located in Burlington, North Carolina, has a seating capacity of 3,500 and a storied past. Originally built in Danville, Virginia, the stadium was dismantled and relocated 43 miles south to its current location in 1958. Known historically as Fairchild Stadium, it was named after the adjacent Fairchild Park and the nearby Fairchild Aircraft manufacturing plant. The stadium has been a prominent venue in the original Carolina League and made a brief appearance in the 1988 film "Bull Durham."
One of the stadium's most memorable events occurred on June 24-25, 1988, when it hosted a 27-inning game between the Burlington Indians and Bluefield Orioles. This game set a record for the longest continuous single-game solo broadcast in baseball history, performed by announcer Richard Musterer.

BBQ Diplomacy: Commissioner Doug Bridges’ Meaty Dilemma. As we eagerly await the first pitch this weekend, perhaps it's time for a little friendly competition off the diamond! How about our County Commissioners or even the Greene County Chamber of Commerce step up to the plate and propose a playful wager to their counterparts in Cleveland County?
With Cleveland County Commissioner Doug Bridges' family owning the iconic Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge in Shelby, it's the perfect opportunity to spice things up with a tasty exchange based on the game's outcome. Picture this: if our Rams emerge victorious (which, let's be honest, we know they will!), our proposal could be to trade a plate of their famous Red Bridges BBQ for a delectable taste of Morris’ BBQ or Ole Time Smokehouse BBQ, both cherished gems right here in Greene County. It's a chance to showcase our local flavors, build camaraderie between counties, and add an extra dash of excitement to the weekend. So, let's get our game faces on, make the proposal, and get ready for a showdown both on and off the field!
